Special Education Unit
Our school offers a Special Education Unit dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs through tailored programs and resources. The unit provides a nurturing environment where individual abilities are recognised and developed, promoting inclusive education and personal growth.
Bathurst West Public School is proud to offer seven specialised support classes (Autism, Moderate Intellectual, and Multi-categorical) designed to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. Each child has an Individual Learning Plan, developed in close partnership with parents, to ensure their growth is supported academically, socially, and emotionally. Our programs focus on the whole child, providing meaningful opportunities for students to build confidence, explore their interests, and celebrate their strengths.
Students in our support classes are encouraged to take part in all aspects of school life, including excursions, sporting activities, whole-school events, and special schools’ sporting carnivals. This inclusive approach helps students develop a strong sense of belonging and boosts their self-esteem, while also fostering acceptance, understanding, and empathy within the wider school community.
These shared experiences allow students to form friendships and practise important skills such as communication, social interaction, teamwork, and gross motor development—all while having fun and being supported every step of the way.
All placements into our Support Unit are done through applications to District Office and their placement panels.
