Student opportunities and activities
At Bathurst West Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our programs include:
- School sporting teams - including Basketball, Touch Football, Netball, Rugby League, Cricket, Soccer, AFL and more
- Athletics and inter-school competitions including opportunities to trial for representative teams in a range of sports
- Creative and Performing arts groups and showcases including Dance groups, Circus, Acrobatics, Band, Choir, Eisteddfod performance opportunities, Showcasing artistic talents at the Royal Bathurst Show, Schools Spectacular, Pulse Alive, Festival of choral music, Western dance festival
- Cultural and language activities - Harmony day, NAIDOC celebrations, Reconciliation week, Wiradyuri language program, Dirraybang footprint
- Excursions and incursions - Participating in both day and overnight excursions can significantly enhance students' learning experiences by connecting classroom content with real-world contexts. These activities support the curriculum by providing hands-on opportunities, encourage social development, and help build students' confidence through new challenges and environments.
- Public Speaking and Debating - Camplin Cup, Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition, Debating teams and the opportunity to trial for regional teams
- Interest-based clubs including Chess club, Gardening club, Poetry workshops, Craft Interest group, Wiradyuri Craft group
- Student Leadership Opportunities ie: Active Student Representative Council, Young AECG representatives, Grit Leadership Conference for School Leaders
- Activities that support High Potential and Gifted Learners.

Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
