Bathurst West Public School currently consists of five support classes (Autism, Moderate Intellectual, Behaviour support and Multi-categorical) catering for the needs of all the students. Individual learning plans are written in collaboration with parents and the Unit provides rich opportunities to promote the development of the whole child. The programs provide students with the opportunity to express themselves and demonstrate individual strengths
All students are encouraged to participate in whole school activities, excursion and events, sporting groups along with special schools sporting carnivals. This inclusiveness benefits the students by improving self-esteem and promoting a sense of belonging and also develops acceptance, tolerance and caring in the wider community. These experiences provide wonderful opportunities for students to mix with peers whilst developing social and communication skills, gross motor and team building skills as well as important friendships.
All placements into our Support Unit are done through applications to District Office and their placement panels.
